Nació el 19 de octubre de 1953, en Nueva York, Estados Unidos y se trasladó a Tampa, Florida en 1966 a los 13 años. En su adolescencia jugó muchos deportes, como esgrima, tiro con arco, paseos a caballo, esquí acuático y tenis. asistieron a St. Petersburg College Prep School, y luego fue a la Universidad de South Florida en Tampa.
A finales de 1970, comenzó a levantar pesas para rehabilitarse de lesiones en ambas rodillas sufridas mientras jugaba al rugby. Pronto, se involucró en el naciente deporte del culturismo femenino. En 1980 ganó el primer NPc National y en 1981 gaó el titulo AAU Ms. America.
Hizo una aparición como actriz dramática en la serie de la NBC llamada Real People.
Compitió en tres shows profesionales y se retiró luego de salir en el sexto lugar del Ms. Olympia de 1982. En 1983 publica un libro llamado Winning Women's Bodybuilding.
Fue encontrada muerta a los 35 años de edad en su departamento en Odessa, Florida, el 4 de octubr de 1989 producto de una intoxicacion alcohólica aguda.
En el 2002 fue incluida en el salón de la fama de la IFBB.
